Anti ISA Vigil Distrupted Yet Again

Posted on: February 2, 2009

After missing last week’s vigil (of which the Selangor MB Khalid spoke against the war on Palestine as well as to the anti ISA vigilers) i’m really looking forward to this week’s vigil.

It was very early, around 8pm, the police was coming full force, around 20 traffic polices zooming around outside MBPJ, two black marias, FRUs. Gosh, seems like we are criminals that requires the attention from the full force. The fact is it was so early that many die hards or orang degil haven’t even arrived yet, and we numbers to around 30.

Yes, there’s just 30 of us against the 100 policemen (minimum). Again they came in and declared our gathering as illegal and ordered us to disperse. The fact was, we received the permission by the Selangor state government to use the MBPJ for our activity, and the MBPJ even set up the PA system for us, it was just set up by the time i arrived around 7.50pm. The PA system was not there permanently, it was set up for us, after which will be removed by the MBPJ staff. Yet the police maintain that we need a police permit.

Last week, Selangor MB Khalid also spoke at this place, no police permit, the police permit they have was for the function inside the Civic Centre, but they don’t have the permit at our usual place, so why no arrest nor order to disperse then, and yet we were harassed consistently every week.

Haris managed to negotiate a few minutes for us to sing the national anthem before we disperse. By the time it end, it was just 8.15pm. We all walked over to the Lotus restaurant, many veteran vigilers just arrived and was surprised that we ended so early, chit chat for a while at the Lotus compound. Our numbers were bigger as more shown up late, maybe due to the traffic disruption by the police.

After a while, the police made another stupid move. They came in the Lotus and demanded us to leave. Either we ordered a drink inside or leave, cannot even stand inside the Lotus compound (in front of the cinema). Basically many were simply chit chatting about something else, about CNY holidays etc. i really don’t understand why we were ordered to move. Although the manners shown by the police was better compared to last time, but still it didn’t justified why we should leave. The FRUs just stood in front of Lotus (Anil‘s blog have a good picture by Mark).

We really can’t do anything else, just enjoy our drink in Lotus while in full protection by the police and FRU. Finished my drink and off i go at 9.15pm with the police and FRU still there, i think maybe they received OTs for this, that was why they have to be there even though we ended the vigil. Anyway, i will be there again next week.

Yup… this time the police are more POLITE, compare to previous week where the police shout at us using loud speaker no matter what we said. Even ask us to disperse IMMEDIATELY (without NEGARAKU)!!!

Also, why nobody in PDRM teach their SBs to respect NEGARAKU? They moved around to shoot video while all the vigilers stand straight and sing Negaraku. Where is their respect to our National Anthem?

oh yeah, i just remember the time when we were singing Negaraku, a little girl was walking out from the office, but the moment she realize we were singing the national anthem, she stop and stood still, but those SBs were busy moving around taking pics. But i do notice the old SB were singing with us while snapping pics.

Was waiting for all the posts and not disappointed by my vigil family! Great work! 🙂

By now the cops must have realised we will not give up our rights to assemble peacefully. Time for this fact to get to the thick skulls of the ‘higher up nincompoops’

Nanda says:

Nanda,

Ok… Looks like you are the GOOD SB lah! Then you should teach your fellow SB-mates to stand straight like you! LOL!
