I sould be happy, i mean happier upon hearing the released of the 13 ISA detainees. While i’m happy for the 13 and their family members, i do felt angry at the same time. The obvious question is why the 13? Why only 13? Take a look at the 13 released ISA detainees;

1) Wan Amin Wan Hamat (suspected JI members)

2) Pakana Selama (Darul Islam)

3) Mohd Arasad Patangari (Darul Islam)

4) Idris Lanama (Darul Islam)

5) A Artas A Burhanudin (Darul Islam)

6) Binsali Omar (Darul Islam)

7) Mohd Nazri Dollah (Darul Islam)

8) Francis indanan (Darul Islam)

9) Amir Hussain (False documentation)

10) Sundaraj Vijay (Dalse documentation)

11) San Khaing (False documentation)

12) R. Kenghadharan (Hindraf)

13) V. Ganabatirau (Hindraf)

Now why only one JI member was released when there are more inside detained for the same reason at the same time? The same goes to the Hindraf 5. Why only the two released when the other three were still detained? I thought Uthayakumar should be the first to be released considering his worsening diabetes situation. What about Manoharan? The reason gave by his lawyer was good enough for his released, he was arrested in November 2007 because the government deem Manoharan as a threat to national security, but on March 2008, he was elected as Members of Parliament by the Rakyat. How can he be a national threat when the people didn’t think so and elect as their MP? So why isn’t he released? The released of the 13 should be a happy moment, but at the same time more questions comes along. and it is also clear that the ISA have been used and will continue to be used as a political tools for the Barisan Nasional.
If Najib thinks this move is going to get his popularity level rise, i must say, the people nowadays are not stupid. Maybe you think we are, but we are not. It only shows just how powerful the PM are, arrest anyone without reason, detained him for years, and released him later to gain popularity. PTUI!!! Absolute bullshit.

This is something presented by Jaya at last Sunday’s Anak Bangsa Malaysia Group gathering. As i have said earlier, it was very informative which i believe even the Pro ISA group find it difficult to defend.

Now, since the Internal Security Act started (way back in the August 1960) until today a total of 4319 people were detained. When it was tabled in the parliament back then by Tun Razak, it was said that the ISA was important as a way of defence against the communist. Yet, out of the 4319 people arrested thus far, only minorities of them were communist, mostly were NGOs, social activist, opposition party members as well as UMNO members involved in power struggle.

Used of ISA starting from the 1960s;

1960 (November) = 60 Front members detained “suspected” ties with communist

1962-65 = Parti Rakyat & Labour Party leaders and “suspected” communist in Sarawak for opposing the formation of Malaysia.

1967 = Asahan and Trinag estate workers for organising a strike and long march

1967-68 = Party Rakyat & Labour Party leaders for Pro-communist sympathies.

1969 = Opposition Leaders

1970s

January 1970 = 2 Parti Rakyat Pahang State assemblymen

1971-1973 = 200 Parti Rakyat and Labour Party workers and members & Trade Union Leaders in Kedah, Perak, Penang & Selangor

1974-1975 = Student Activist from universities

1974 = SNAP leader James Wong

1976 = Parti Rakyat Leader Kassim Ahmad & Razak Ahmad, journalist Samad Ismail and 6 others including “dua Abdul” accused of communist sympathies and plot to seize leadership in Umno

1980s

1984 = PAS Legal Adviser Suhaimi Said

1985 = 36 Muslim villagers in Memali, Baling led by Ibrahim Libya for deviant teachings.

1986 = Penan group for blocking logging

1987 = 106 under Operasi Lalang (many were opposition party members including Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh )

1989 = 2 UM students for demonstration against concert & PAS journalist who report the arrest. 6 others were arrested for possesion of home made shotgun called “bakakuk”

1990s

1991 = 4 Sabah Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Leaders for plot to secede

1994 = Leader of Darul Arqam for deviationist teachings

1996 = 18 other Darul Arqam members

1997 = 10 Shiah muslim for threatening security

1998 = 2 Achehness for outbreak of violence in Semenyih refugee camp

1998 (May) = Individuals including Police and Immigration Officers for involvelment in illegal migrant workers.

1998 (Sepetember) = Anwar Ibrahim and 28 other Reformasi members

2000s

2000 (July) = al-Ma’unah militant group in Sauk Perak

2001 = Kumpulan Muhjahidin Malaysia for alleged links to Jemaah Islamiah and al-Qaeda

2001 (April) = 10 Parti Keadilan & Reformasi member

2002-2007 = Members of Jemaah Islamiah and Darul Islam Sabah

2007 (December) = Hindraf 5

2008 (September) = Raja Petra Kamaruddin, Teresa Kok and Tan Hoon Cheng (Sin Chew journalist who reported Ahmad Ismail’s calling non malays as Pandatang)

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

There you go from 1960 to 2008, the ISA was used on numerous counts. In between 1984-1993, 12 people detained under ISA were executed. Now, 43 people are still inside the Kamunting detention center of which ;

Darul Arqam = 13, Hindraf = 5, Jemaah Islmaiah = 13, Document falsification = 13, and 2 Miscellaneous.

Now, do you still think the ISA is good for the country?

This morning at the PJ Court, our 21 ISA vigilers were charged by the police for illegal gathering and failed to disperse after given orders by the police. All 21 plead Not Guilty and all was bail out.

Scenes from the breakfast :

cimg4448_editcimg4449_editcimg4450_editcimg4451_editcimg4452_edit

Head to the Court soon after;

cimg4461_edit

Before the group photo, RPK spotted a piece of rubbish which he confiscated away and Zorro subsequently thrown it at the floor (this is what that rubbish should be treated).

cimg4465_edit

There’s too many people that my camera couldn’t get all in (even more is people not in the picture)

cimg4472_editcimg4478_editcimg4483_edit

Father O.C.Lim also came to support Father Paulino who was charged.

cimg4484_editcimg4498_edit

The trial starts quite late, and with the Chinese New Year sunshine, everyone was exhausted waiting outside. The situation is the same inside the Court room, all packs like sardines. Many came to support the 21. All the 21 plead Not Guilty and bail was set at RM 1500 one surety and hearing was scheduled at 10 March 09. I left the place at 12.30p, after hearing that all will be bail out.

We HAVE A POLICE PERMIT for our PJ Candlelight Vigil Malam Mesra Rakyat. Ever since we moved to the MBPJ Civic Centre, we have obtained permit every week thanks to Richard Yeoh. Therefore, there’s nothing for you to worry about police & FRU presence. Remember that we have a permit which we don’t even need to apply, but we do have it, and we are just exercising our RIGHTS TO ASSEMBLE PEACEFULLY.

Yes PERFECT 10!!! Our PJ Candlelight vigil has been going for TEN CONSECUTIVE WEEKS, that is truly remarkable. This week i’m going to write something different from my usual report. Since my record is 10 out of 10 vigil, i believe i am able to put a few facts about our vigil from the days when we first started it at Padang Timur in front Amcorp Mall to MBPJ Civic Centre.

HOST: The PJ candlelight vigil is organized by bloggers & Malaysia Today supporters. Many misunderstood that this is organized by the Pakatan Rakyat or any political parties, but NO it isn’t. However, we do welcome anyone who shared our vision to join us, no matter it’s NGO or any political parties.

REASON: The main reason is to call for the abolishment of ISA as well as to release all the ISA detainees who were arrested and detained without any EVIDENCE. Well first, we started out when the government run out of control and arrest anyone who opposed their wrongdoings, it heightens with the arrest of RPK, Teresa Kok & Miss Tan (the SinChew journalist who report on Ahmad Ismail infamous PENDATANG ISSUE). That was when the prominent bloggers like Haris Ibrahim & Bernard Khoo aka Zorro called for the people to make a stand against the government’s act. I believe it started from the night of 27 Sept 08, when we gathered at the Dataran Merdeka, and since then, we decided to continue it weekly. Thus the PJ candlelight vigil was born against the wrongful detention under ISA.

VENUE : First it was held at the Padang Timur in front of the Amcorp Mall, until the 5th week, when it clashed with the BERSIH 1st Year anniversary which the police cordoned off the area, blocking virtually every entry. The following week, we moved the vigil into the MBPJ Civic Centre and stays there until now.

LEGAL ??? : This is up for argument. Under the Constitution, we were guaranteed the rights to demonstrate peacefully. However, we also have laws that calls for the need for a police permit for gathering for more than 2 person in an open area. So, our gathering in Padang Timur ala NTV7 Tai Chi advertisement is considered ILLEGAL. Gathered at park also call illegal gathering, utterly non sense!

However, since we have moved to MBPJ Civic Centre, our helpful councilor Richard Yeoh managed to get us a police permit for our PJ Candlelight vigil. so now, WE HAVE A POLICE PERMIT, so why the afraid, come and join us.

REMARKABLE MOMENTS:

1) Since this is organized by the rakyat and not any organization, it managed to go on for 10 consecutive weeks without fail. Believe me, to be able to make this a weekly event, and have average of 150 people weekly from all walks of life, it’s really amazing. We have gone through heavy rain, police and FRU harassment, but we persevere! I cannot imagine any political parties can do this weekly by just depending only on the supports from ordinary people.

2) The Best moment is of course when we were able to see Raja Petra Kamarudin walks out from the ISA. I’m not trying to take any credits away from RPK’s team of lawyers which includes Malik Imtiaz, Haris Ibrahim, Candra ….all brilliant individuals, but i truly believe that it was the people, the rakyat’s voices that reached the government and the Judiciary. The emergence of groups like PRO ISA only strengthen the truth that we have made a big voice around the country that sends the shivers down the government’s spine.

3) This is worth a Guiness Book of Record; The police and FRU charged at the crowd who was singing the national anthem. To say we sing Negaraku just to save ourself is totally BULLSHIT. The national anthem was almost done, yet the police and FRU cannot wait for another 10 seconds for it to end before arrest the peaceful crowd.

4) From November till December 2008, a total of 17 ISA detainees has been RELEASED. Again, i really believe that this is the credit to all bravehearts who make a stand against the ISA.

5)Since we first started to fight for RPK and all the ISA detainees, we have delved into making a new generation of ANAK BANGSA MALAYSIA who don’t look into each others race or religion. Not only the ISA, we have also managed to go to the Hindu temple when we heard that they were told by the police that they can’t PRAY in the temple for the Hindraf 5.We have also seen people talks about JERIT, who is cycling around the country to hand memorandums to the leaders around the country. so in all, we have becomes ANAK BANGSA MALAYSIA who is conscious socio politics and cares for each other’s wellbeing.

This week’s photos;

cimg3962_edit2cimg3962_the-sun11

Richard showed us an advertisement from The Sun which says; CHANGE HAPPENS WHEN YOU MAKE A STAND. Yes we are all anticipating the change to a better Malaysia. That of course will happens starting from this bunch of ANAK BANGSA MALAYSIA!!!

Bernard emceed yesterday, and he acknowledge the first timer who joined us yesterday.

Someone asked “What is the Pakatan Rakyat doing, when we were fighting here, what are they doing? Why don’t they come?”

Well sir, we don’t really need Pakatan. If we want to change, it is we the Rakyat that is going to start the change. Pakatan get into power because we the rakyat wants to change, so in the end whatever changes that we want, it’s still entirely up to the people, the ANAK BANGSA MALAYSIA. Another is, we don’t give or depends so much on any political party, it should be PEOPLE’S POWER, don’t breed another powerful party that we can’t control. We vote them in, we told them what to do, not the other way.

cimg3969_edit

Pat Lu encourage the parents to come and fight for the next generation, just like what the older generation have done. Also, we need to encourage the young to take note of politics, to know what is happening in the country.

The BN government instill the FEAR factor in us. They told that we survived the terrorist attacks because we have the ISA, look at Mumbai, we didn’t have that sort of attacks because we have the ISA, so said the government, but believe me, even if one day we have NO more terrorist, we still have the Fear in us because that’s exactly what the government wants.

cimg3990_edit

Aloysius shared the same sentiment about the Fear factor.

cimg4001_editcimg4004_edit

Eric & James shared some of their thoughts.

cimg4011_edit

I believe many have heard about JERIT right. Just to remind that this week they will be coming to Selangor, so please check on their route and if possible, give them your supports.

Before that, Haris also talk on the recent released of the few ISA detainees. Someone asked him whether those released should give a press statement whether they really repent, or that their arrest was wrongful. To Haris, it was us, the people who should apologize to them, because we abandon them, they were arrested without a shred of evidence, but we trust the government and label them as terrorist blindly. They were released with conditions that they don’t go to the public, so we don’t expect them to come forward, be fair to them, they have been arrested for so long, they must have treasure their freedom more, and we can’t be so unfair to them that just to clear our doubts we asked them to come forward and risk being detained again.

Well well well, PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi CONFIRMED that he/government has NO PLAN TO ABOLISH OR AMEND THE DRACONIAN LAW INTERNAL SECURITY ACT (ISA). Before the announcement, a few politicians from MCA, Gerakan and PPP has called for the amendment of the law. To top it up, PPP President Kayveas said that if the government DID NOT ABOLISH the ISA before next March, the party PPP WILL PULL OUT FROM BN. At the press conference, when PM Abdullah was asked about PPP’s intention to withdrawn from BN, he answered that IT’S PPP’s CHOICE. so now Mr Kayveas, where art thou? What are you waiting for, you have been slap in the face, are you waiting to be booted out?

Also, last time in the parliament when the Pakatan Rakyat went all out to get the MPs signature to asked the house to debate on the ISA, NONE MCA, NONE MIC NONE GERAKAN plus NONE but one BN MPs signed, they even claimed that the debate is a waste of time and they can discuss it in the cabinet. Even during the MCA party election, many WON CANDIDATES claimed to be against the ISA and will asked for the amendment of the law. so what is your view on this now? Your BN President said NO PLAN TO ABOLISH OR AMEND the ISA. It’s either YOU ALL BN COMPONENT PARTY LIED TO THE PEOPLE or your President DON’T EVEN BOTHER ABOUT YOUR PARTY’s VIEW. So what now? DIAM DIAM and hope the people will forget about what you all have said? while Kayveas is waiting for Abdullah to boot him out, you all MCA, MIC, GERAKAN is waiting for the people to BOOT YOU ALL OUT!!!!

Thanks to Councilor Richard Yeoh who again applied permit for our candlelight vigil which as usual comes with the 12 clauses that basically denied us our rights for lighting candle, hanging banners, no political or racial speech, no NO TO ISA Shirt, no activities that show sympathy towards ISA detainees etc.

cimg3847_edit

Richard then past the mic to Haris.

cimg3850_edit

Last week when I was with my Indian friends, only then I know that the week when 24 of us were arrested, something happened to them as well. Since the HIN**AF was arrested, you know the banned word, ok, they have been organising prayers for them in Hulu Selangor. In fact they planned to do it last 12/11/08, but one of them was summoned by the Special Branch and they WARNED HIM NOT TO PRAY. They threaten him that if they proceed with the prayers, they will arrest them. After much thought, these people gathered enough courage and proceed with their prayers and good to them, no one was arrested that night. But they were threaten by the Special Branch who went there and it was meant to scare them away from participating these prayers in the future. Now I really have no idea what the police or the government is doing, first it was Yoga, then we saw cyclist arrested, now we saw prayers were threaten. I have discussed this with a few Pakatan MP, and they were shocked and willing to help, they will write a formal complain to the state CPO.

The people there will be holding another prayer this Friday at a place called Rasa, starts from 7-7.30 pm until 9 pm. They will be happy if we can join them but not so early at 7pm, but when they finished around 9pm. But I told them I’m happy to go around 7pm, and I can wait for them, I do hope to see many of you there. We are not going for the Hindu prayers, but we go there just to show solidarity, that will be good enough for them. Some light refreshment will also be served.

We have Pete (RPK) next, and before he reaches the mic, Richard cheekily remind RPK, no political speech buddy 🙂

cimg3851_edit

RPK begin his speech in BM (malay). Well tomorrow is the Hari Raya Haji celebration, so today, we gathered here to celebrate the Hari Raya Haji so we do not need a permit for that. And as the host for this, just like any host, I’m going to give a sermon. The government says that only the chinese, indians and the westernize malay are against the ISA, that these people spoke English not Malays. So today, I’m going to shows them, that I not only look like malay, but I speak Malays as well.

cimg3856_edit

Last Monday, when I was at the Bar Council forum about the ISA, there were 30 UMNO people, who gathered outside for their PRO ISA demonstration. They shouted about defending the Malay’s right with the used of ISA, they support the ISA and claimed that the ISA was needed to defend the Malay’s right. However, from the 60 plus ISA detainees inside Kamunting, only 2-3 were chinese, 6-7 indians, and the rest was all MALAYS. It’s the ISA that dumps the Malays inside Kamunting, so how the ISA can defend the Malay’s rights, I don’t know. There’s only one word to describe these people, MUNAFIQ (hypocrite).

cimg3857_edit

When I was in Kamunting, before I was release on the 7/11/08, all the ISA detainees received a memo which told us to pack our bags, but no, we are packing our bags NOT because we’ll be released. We packed our bags because we’ll be moved on the 10/11/08 to another block temporarily because the current block we’re housing will be demolished. It’ll be demolished not because the ISA will be abolish, instead it’ll be demolished because the government wants to build another BIGGER block, to prepare for housing more people. So the government have other plans, they are preparing for the next election, and UMNO had identified that the reason BN lost heavily on last election was because of the internet, bloggers, Malaysia Today. So before next election, we might see more people arrested under ISA, people like Haris, Bernard might be arrested. This is the real reason why UMNO needs ISA, because they want to stay in power, they have rule for 51 years and they want to stay another 51 years.

People from France is French, people from Italy is italians, people from China is chinese, people from India is Indian, so people from Malaysia MUST BE Malaysian, so I do not want to label us a malays, chinese, indians, kadazans, iban etc anymore, we are all MALAYSIAN.

I would like to thank my team of lawyers including Haris (standing at the back) there, for helping me, we have created history, we fight against Section 8B and we have won. Thank you everyone and Selamat Hari Raya Haji.

cimg3861_edit

Peter cheng, came up next and spoke in Malay. Well I have a message from Macau, there’s 300 Malaysian working there, and they know and supports what we are doing here.

cimg3865_edit

I’m Jaya, I have been attending this vigil for the past 9 weeks. The crowd was roughly the same. Last week after the vigil, I went to have a drink at the shop opposite the road. There were people watching footballs and when it was half time, I tried to stuck a conversation with them. I asked them do they know why we are here, holding this candlelight vigil. They said they don’t know why we were here. It was just oppposite and they don’t know why we were here. Imagine those outside. I believe we need to do more. There’s a few things we need to do, the first is of course, to us who are here, we need to know exactly why we are here. We need to know more than those who are not here, so that we can educate them, tell them about ISA. Then we can educate our MP as well. In fact I’m very dissappointed with the Pakatan MP, we have won 82 constituents, so at least we can do this at 82 different places, but no we didn’t. but never mind, we can do this together, starting by telling our friends. Let more people know about the ISA and our candlelight vigil.

cimg3868_edit

Next was Jonathan. I first joins the people back in last year, when I marched together with the 2000 lawyers in Putrajaya. They said when lawyers marched they must be problem with judiciary. I said when people gathered like this, there must be problem with the government. I have served as volunteer officer for 21 years, and I was trained that when people demonstrate, we the police defence, not by charging at them, like what they do few weeks ago. Same with Jaya, I also talked to people about this vigil, they said they vote for the opposition when the election comes, but when said why they didn’t come here then, they just laughed. They were afraid with the police, with the government. But we cannt run away from this, when RPK put his head on the chopping board we cannot be scared!!!

cimg3875_edit

Prof Azmi Sharom also came yesterday. He summoned up that the ISA represents all that is evil of this rotten system. The people voted against the BN because of the rotten system, and this automatically put the Pakatan Rakyat in the parliament. If the PR takes over the government they must get rid of this rotten system, if not the people willl not hessitate to kick them out.

cimg3884_edit

Hi I’m Melvin Sun, a Consulting Engineer (edited sorry for the ealier mistake) in the same age with RPK. I was raised by my parents to be colour blind, in fact my best friend is a Malay. Back in the 70s, the government implement a new ruling that if the contractors wants to get government contract, they need to have 30% Bumiputera participation. I’m HAPPY at that time, because this encourage intergration between races, so I followed. Then in 85, the government change the ruling to 51% Bumiputera participation. I’m confused, but later on, I thought OK since they are the majority of this country, so I complied. In early 2000s, another ruling comes. Now the government said for government contract below RM 30 millions, there MUST BE 100% BUMIPUTERA COMPANY. Of course I’m mad with this. This cannot be, the government is segregating the people. I talk on this in a forum for consulting engineers, there were a few hundred consulting engineers attend, and there’s NO ONE denied this when I talk on it, the rule was not recorded on paper, but when there’s noone denying this, I cannot be wrong. Due to this, I admit that I becomes more racist in the past few years, but RPK whack me up with his writings. I read his articles and begin to change back, I’m anak Malaysia.

cimg3885_edit

Next, we have a lovely lady, who stood up because the mens were hording the mic for whole night now! Haha. Well i have been reading RPK’s writing for some time, and i believe what he wrote. In fact, i was supposed to bring Wan Hamid here tonight but i was unable to contact him these few days. He wants to come to greet RPK since he was out from Kamunting. He was 80 years old, and there’s Uncle James who is 75 years old, but he knows everything that is happening in Malaysia.

Yesterday was another memorable Sunday vigil at the MBPJ with the appearance of Puan Norlaila and her son Suhaib, the family of an ISA detainee Mat Shah who was detained close to 7 years, as well as the brave lady who stood up against the Pro ISA group last week.

It was 8pm with the crowd moving in slowly well it must be the traffic that slows them, I guess. Then I heard a voice “I am Lita” ah hah, someone I’ve been looking forward to meet, Hi Lita, I’m Sam. and it stuck both of us for a while, well we have been sharing in the internet for sometime now, and it’s really a pleasure to met her.

cimg3744_edit

Estrelita with her own “candle”

As I was chatting with Prof Robert, I saw Puan Norlaila and Suhaib in the crowd.

cimg3746_edit1

When I approach Suhaib, I can see his face full of question mark ???? It’s like Do I know you???

Oh I’m following your mom’s blog for sometime now, so I know your family’s problem with the ISA.

cimg3747_editcimg3748_edit

Then I heard Councilor Richard Yeoh drawing the crowd nearer to start the night. As usual, he read out the terms & condition set by the permit for our gathering. Just as usual as it is, the ridiculous terms & condition still draws the laughter from the crowd.

cimg3750_edit

No activities showing our sympathy towards ISA detainees, no banners, no political speech, no burning of candles, no wearing of NO TO ISA shirt etc..

We have spoke to Selangor MB, Datuk Khalid, and we have the permission to light the candles for 15 minutes, so you all light it for 15 minutes, then blow it off, then light it on again lah, you know what I mean la said richard. but I really don’t know why this 15 minutes term? Any difference between 15 and 16 and 30 minutes?

Haris took over and we observed a minute silence to reflect upon the Mumbai attack, then Harris invited Puan Norlaila to speak to the crowd.

cimg3753_edit1

From here, it becomes really emotional, her tears flows and we were all saddened by what she related to us, her experience beginning from the night her husband was taken away under ISA in 2002.

cimg3759_edit

It was midnight, 12am when the SB (Special Branch) officer came to our house, they searched our house for 4 hours, untill 4 am, before they took away my husband. I was shook, in a state of confusion, what is ISA? Why they took away my husband? Before this, I really have no idea about ISA, from there on I searched all the information about ISA. It was only sometime after the arrest, that I can meet with my husband. During my visit, we were surrounded by so many of SBs, they jolted down every single words we talked and took lots of pictures, it becomes so weird that we hardly talk.

The worst thing is, the SB threathen our relatives, even our siblings turn away from us. Everyone was so afraid with the ISA that no one dares to come to us. Even my neighbours, when they now my husband was arrested under ISA, they quickly shut the door, it was only a few months later that they come to me, they apologised because they were so afraid with the ISA.

cimg3760_edit

Back then in 2002, it was really difficult, no one helps us. We don’t get coverage from the media, no news from the newspaper, TV lagilah susah. Only Malaysiakini, Harakah Daily, and the alternative media that highlights our plight. Masa tu ada Blogger ke?

I was really down back then, there were times when I felt really sad that I just don’t feel like I want to work, tak larat, just want to lye down. But it was after, that the reality strikes me, I have to pay the bills, and with Suhaib, only 8 years old, I have to stand up, I have to continue my life. Only then I accept the reality. But the SB never gave us a good time, they told us not to contact any lawyers, not to contact any politicians, not human rights activist, no media, if I complied then my husband will be released. So I complied with it for 2 years, until 2004, when Suhaib and I waited in Kamunting for his released, only then we were told that his arrest was extended another 2 years!!! For 2 years I have been waiting for him, doing nothing, laid low, but this is what we get. So what is the option we have?

Only then I go for help. Edmund Bon from the Bar Council, he helps me with the habeas corpus application, which we lost. Then I go to Suhakam which is supposed to be our guardian for human rights, but they are so toothless that after we have sent hundreds and hundreds of memorandum, it was still a failure. It was then they told me to go to the streets. And yes I go. I go to demonstration, go to the Parliament, and I met Teresa Kok who is so eagerly trying to help me, helding my hand searching for some Minister, and I have meet with Nazri Aziz, I met with Shahrizat. But it is not easy to meet those Ministers, they don’t want to meet us. All we can is to meet with the Pakatan Rakyat MPs. Not enough with the Parliament I went to Shahrizat’s office, it was then she told me, you go to the Putrajaya, to the PM’s car park, approached him. Yes I go, but whereever I go, the SB never failed to trail me, the follow me everywhere.

It was then at Seremban, at the Felda, that I managed to “ambush” him, he was surrounded with so many bodyguards, but there was one momeny where he was isolated, and I used that opportunity to hand over a letter to him. I told him “YAB, my husband has been arrested under ISA for 5 years” and his respond was “oh ya ke”. That is all I get from him, before the bodyguards realize that one mak cik has approached the PM, that was when I run away as hard as I could as the SBs were chasing behind and I locked myself in the car. The SB came and asked “What is the contend of the letter”, which I awnsered I don’t know, you asked the PM la, and I drove off. I felt guilty, we were brought up to be soft, sopan, but after I’ve ambushed the PM, I felt guilty, it was kurang ajar, but then again, what is the option we have?

I began to speak out, to tell the people of this draconian law as I believe many just like me before this never knew anything about ISA. I help out at the election campaign, but the SB who follows me took my pictures and show it to my husband. “You see, why you let you wife to do this, to campaign for the opposition, talk about the ISA” it’s like my husband was punished for what I do outside. My husband has been arrested under ISA for close to 7 years now, yet there’s no proof of his wrong doings. I can take it if they have proof and charged him in the Court, but to have him arrested based on accusation, I can’t. There’s a few more people who is arrested along with my husband, and their wife, I can guarantee you have never seen their face, because just like me, they were threathen by the SB, not to go to the media, do not demonstrated, so they stayed low profile, until now, but what is the result? It’s still the same, their husband is still under ISA without proof and trial. So what is the difference?

It is not easy to have a crowd who is brave enough like you all, and I believe RPK was released, because he has enough of supports from the people, and of course the Judge was brave enough, he just do his job as a Judge and nothing else.

I meet with Puspa, the wife of Manoharan, one of the Hindraf 5 who was arrested under ISA, just like me, she is doing everything she could. I hope the Hindraf can continue. They have been doing what I’m doing, and I salute them for making their precense felt during the Hari Raya when they attend the PM’s Open House. All they do was attending the Open House and raised the ISA issue, and they were banned for that. The PM is not happy, and the UMNO, what they want to show is their power, to show they have the power by doing this. I will try to come whenever i have the time, because i know you all supports me, so i have to come.

Well Puan Norlaila spoke for an hour, I think I have wrote almost the full context, but for more of her story, please visit her blog Merah Hitam. Gave her you supports, she really appreciates it.

Then we have another brave lady. I believe we all still remembers the Pro ISA gathering last week by the Pewaris, who demonstrated by the roadside, and there this brave lady who stood up against them. And she was with us yesterday to related her story;

cimg3766_edit

Well I was around there that time when I saw their demonstration, with their banners. And i don’t know why they can get the permit when we can’t do it in the open area, and even with our permit now, we cannot have banners. I took pictures of them from the pedestrian bridge and I walked back to the otherside of the road. It was when I saw another banners which they claimed that the malay equity is supposed to be 70% instead of 30%, and that was when I really boils up and I walk back and shouted that they are racist, and I said shame on you. Then this man came to me and asked me to repeat what I said, and I did. Then he told me bettter to go away, I turn away, little did I realize that another crowd is chasing up to me, luckily there’s TWO policemen there who escorted me to my car. I was only a few steps away when someone PUNCHED MY FACE, AND KICKED ME. Even after I went inside my car, they continued to kicked on my car. And they can get a permit for this, with only a few policemen there, but ours was full of FRUs and policemen, and no banners some more. So why is the double standard? To me ISA is I Shall Abuse my power.

cimg3770_edit2

She steps down to the applause from the crowd. Richard continues from there.

cimg3771_edit

He told us a story, his friend a senior UMNO member, who told him that they were very disappointed and angry with the Pakatan Rakyat because of the state land issue. Perak has approved state lands to give to the new villagers who had been staying and working on the land for more than 50 years, as well as other states under PR which allocates some funding for the vernaculler schools (chinese, tamil and islamic schools). This action upsets most of the UMNO members and they went on to confront the Perak MB Datuk Nizar, but they all came away impressed by him, because for every questions they threw at him, MB Nizar has a good explaination as well as proof to justifiy the PR action. and they even said If not because of MB Nizar in PR, he might become Malaysia’s future PM!!

After we have another speaker from the floor, Angie Sun;

cimg3773_edit

I am doing my part, and i believe all women should do the same. It’s very easy, just called your friends and tell them about this. Many replied to say that it’s not right to gather here bla bla bla, but i don’t care, because they are afraid. Tonight i’ve fail, but i will continue to do it.

The focus is also on Anak Bangsa Malaysia where we shouldn’t differentiate between race and religion among Malaysian. The fight to end the ISA is not a race issue, it’s about nation , about the people.

As it was close to 10pm now, Richard took over and lead us to sing the Selangor State Anthem and our national anthem Negaraku before we end. Never before we ended so late, but everyone were just happy to share the moment with Norlaila & Suhaib as well as the brave lady who surprises everyone with her courage to stand up against those PRO ISA guys.

Before i go home, i managed to met up with Kak Laila. (She was busy on phone earlier when i got the picture with Suhaib). As i introduced myself to her, she was really surprised.

kkitsam, i thought you are a malay, coz you comment so well in malay.

Well actually i have been following Kak Laila’s blog for sometime, and when i saw some UMNO cyber troopers “kacau” her blog with their rude and moronic mindset, i will give my two cents, in fact just one cent is needed to shoot back at those moron. so in a way, Kak Laila and me had meet before albeit in the cyber world. She added;

Before this, in my life circle, i had very little contact with non malays, i called it minimal contact but now, after my husband was detained under ISA, i open myself up, before this, my world was square, but now i know it’s a round world. That’s the good thing i experience, making new friends regardless of race and religion.

I begin to wonder, maybe, just maybe this ISA is good, in a way that it brought up people of different races & religion and as we fight to end this draconian law, we hold ourselves together as ANAK BANGSA MALAYSIA.

SEREMBAN VIGIL CANCELLED

According to Angela Ooi the Seremban vigil organizer, tomorrow’s vigil has been cancelled. The main reason for this is due to the looooong process for acquiring a PERMIT for the vigil.  Apparently she need  to go through 2 session of interview plus lots of documentation before her application WILL BE CONSIDERED. PLEASE SPREAD THE MESSAGE AROUND.

After last week’s vigil was marred by the FRU incident, all the attention was at the PJ vigil. The turnout however, was one of the biggest for the past six weeks and it was another peaceful vigil without the police and FRU’ presence (those plainclothes are not included).

I arrived early around 7.15pm together with San Jiun. Just 2 people were there and we were all not in our uniform. A reporter from Malaysiakini was there, and he thought it was supposed to start at 7pm, thus his early arrival. Then the people started to arrives, with The Whisperer, followed later by Haris & Zorro. It was 7.40pm, and there were just 15 of us there. My oh my, looks like the people were all chicken out after last weeks incident.

Haris then told us about his conversation with the Selangor MB in the parliament of which MB gave us the permission to use the Civic Centre for our weekly vigil. The MBPJ councilor also has applied for a permit for our gathering inside the car park. Shortly, Richard, the councilor arrives with the permit and he read to us the requirements that come with the permit. There were 12 of them, almost all ridiculous.

cimg3556_edit

Tiada sebarang ceramah atau syarahan berbau politik atau perkauman. No political and racial speeches

Tiada sebarang aktiviti membakar lilin bagi membantah Akta Keselamatan Dalam negeri (ISA). No lighting of candles as an act against ISA

Penganjur mestilah memastikan tiada orang memakai pakaian yang melambangkan sokongan terhadap pemansuhan ISA. Organizer have to make sure NO One wears any clothes that supports the abolishment of ISA

Penganjur dilarang melakukan sebarang aktiviti lain yang melambangkan simpati terhadap tahanan ISA. Organizer ARE NOT ALLOWED to do any activites that shows SYMPATHY towards the ISA detainees

Dilarang penggantungan sebarang kain rentang dan penyebaran risalah menjurus kepada desakan pemansuhan ISA. No banners and leaflets to call for an end to ISA are allowed.

These were among the rules that was included in the permit. To this, Haris refuted, while they gave us the permit to gather, more freedom was taken, including what we can wear, what we can talk. This is all ridiculous. In fact, we don’t even need a permit. Under the Constitution, we have the rights to gather for freedom of expression.

cimg3557_edit

YB Charles Santiago arrives and joins the crowd. Derek Fernandes, explained to us that if we do not want to apply for a permit, then we can move to the site next to the guardhouse because the car park was accessible to the public, so although it was a property under MBPJ, it can still be argued as a public area.

cimg3559_edit

By now, almost a hundred people had gathered and we all move to the site next to the guardhouse. With the guard well inform that only people who comes for our vigil can be allowed to enter, so now with area well close from the public, we will not nedd to apply for a permit.

A lot of people now, and I can’t squeeze in to hear what YB Charles Santiago said but heard him saying the Freedom RUn organize by DAP. In between, our hero has arrive. RPK & Marina has come, and many wellwishers gathered around them.

cimg3579_edit1

Haris reminds RPK that we ARE NOT ALLOWED political speech and no anti government talk to which we all laughed. RPK begin his words with WE LOVE PAK LAH cheekily. We love him for what he will do in the next 5 months, what we was supposed to do but didn’t in the last 5 years. We hope Pak Lah will reform the judiciary. He promotes Islam Hadhari, ISA is against islamic teaching, so we hope Pak Lah will abolish the ISA.

After RPK, the floor is open to anyone to share their oponions. Many comes out, and spoke against ISA as well as thanking the crowd for not chicken out against the oppresive government.

cimg3581_editcimg3583_editcimg3585_editcimg3586_editcimg3590_edit

Sometime in between, Prof Robert offered some Jambu Air to the crowd. Thanks Prof that’s certainly helps as i’m sweating in the middle of the big crowd!!

cimg3592_edit YB Teresa Kok also spoke to the crowd, which now total more than 300 people. She talks on the fight against ISA as well as the ridiculous rules that comes with the permit. Teresa recalled her experience after she was released from ISA that the European Diplomats have classified Malaysia as a nation in CRISIS and they send weekly/monthly report on our situation back to their country, and her arrest has definitely alarmed the European countries and this has actually holds them back from investing in Malaysia. so it was not the demonstration that deter foreign investment, but how the government acts against them as well as the used of ISA for political motives that stops them.

cimg3594_edit cimg3600_edit

Din Merican shows up later. Din again thanks the crowd and told us if anyone was arrested, we will fight this together because what the police do is to separates the people, to scare them, turn them away, but we can fight this with unity, not abandoning anyone.

cimg3603_edit Then Richard again repeats the rules for those late comers as well as reminding us that we are breaking the rules by lighting our candles. Earlier, someone asked Richard, will the police come after you if we break the rules? To this, Richard answered YES definitely, but i’m acting under the order from the Selangor State Exco, they have made the decision to support this candle vigil. We have 24 Councilors, so everyone of us just need to apply the permit twice a year 🙂

After, Sivin Kit who came late also address the crowd. Again he thanks the crowd to be brave enough to stand up for OUR RIGHTS.

cimg3605_edit

Then the young and beauty YB Hannah Yeoh showed up.

cimg3608_edit

I’m young but not beauty. I’m inexperience, i know many here is very experience, so please help me to help you all.

cimg3614_edit

Haris then told us that he have a group of lawyers waiting, in case of emergancy arrest, then there will be assistance. He then reminds us of our rights in case of being arrested.

Then we have another young speaker, Edward Lee.

cimg3616_edit

We cannot run away from politics. Almost what we do is related to politics, we talk about petrol price, that involves politics. We should educate more people make more awareness to the people.

cimg3618_edit

Couldn’t resist to have another shoot with him 🙂

End my day at 9.30pm.
